Please allow up to three hours for your initial consultation. During this time, you will meet with Dr. Sher to discuss your medical history, have a physical exam and undergo diagnostic tests. Generally, the initial visit is conclusive. At the conclusion of your initial visit, you will meet with Dr. Sher again to discuss treatment options and leave with a clear understanding of the recommended course of action.
Once you have requested an appointment, the Center For Cough team will guide you to forms that will help you gather information prior to your visit. This information will include relevant medical records, reports, and films or imaging studies from previous physician visits. The team may also remind you to continue all medications with the exception of antihistamines for a 7-day period before your visit. Antihistamines can interfere with certain testing, so this precaution facilitates all necessary diagnostic testing being completed during your initial visit.
Many patients experience measurable cough relief or resolution after only one visit to Center For Cough. Dr. Sher’s diagnostic approach expedites prompt relief or resolution with few office visits.
If you are visiting Center For Cough from out-of-the-area, you will leave the initial evaluation with a treatment plan that you can easily follow in your home community.
"My work requires me to speak a lot, giving presentations and depositions, and I would worry about getting through without coughing. I worried about drawing attention to myself because of the cough and that it would be distracting from my expertise.
Now, I feel more poised and more in control. I hardly cough any more but if I feel a cough coming on, I know how to control it. And in addition to feeling better at work and in social situations, my wife find it’s more pleasant to be around me." -Tom D
